Loki is the son of a Giant in Norse Myth, and is the God of Mischief. ![]() ![]() So without further ado, let’s take a look at my thoughts surrounding “Norse Mythology”, by Neil Gaiman. When I found that the one and only Neil Gaiman had written a book on the topic, I just had to buy it. Tales of Yggdrasil, the World Tree, around which everything exists, including the Nine Worlds, the many adventures and battles of Thor & Loki, Odin and his quest for knowledge and so many other stories make the mythos that much more exciting to learn more about. Norse Mythology has been a subject which has always fascinated me. Today’s blog is going to take a look at my thoughts surrounding the book! Mythology is a topic, of which I personally love, and have explored a couple of times on the blog in the past. Last week, I finished reading “Norse Mythology” by Neil Gaiman. Would you like to find out more about the adventures of Thor & Loki? Would you like to discover how Tyr, the Norse God of War lost his arm? How about wanting to learn more about Kvasir, the wisest of all beings, or of Idunn and her apples of immortality? Well if you answered yes to any of those questions, then this will be the book for you! ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally, in 1885, he had some success with On the Stage – and Off (1885), a comic memoir of his experiences with the acting troupe, followed by Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow (1886), a collection of humorous essays which had previously appeared in the newly founded magazine, Home Chimes, the same magazine that would later serialise Three Men in a Boat. ![]() Over the next few years, he was a school teacher, a packer, and a solicitor's clerk. And most of all, Jerome K Jerome was writing witty, incisive travelogues a century. He tried to become a journalist, writing essays, satires, and short stories, but most of these were rejected. He was doing topical satire long before Private Eye, and observational humour long before Jasper Carrot. Jerome Author May 2, 1859 Also Known For : Editor, Essayist, Journalist, Playwright Birth Place : Caldmore, United Kingdom Died On : JZodiac Sign : Taurus Jerome K. After three years on the road with no evident success, the 21-year-old Jerome decided that he had enough of stage life and sought other occupations. He joined a repertory troupe that produced plays on a shoestring budget, often drawing on the actors' own meagre resources – Jerome was penniless at the time – to purchase costumes and props. Jerome was inspired by his older sister Blandina's love for the theatre, and he decided to try his hand at acting in 1877, under the stage name Harold Crichton. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He isn’t giving up on more people paying attention to the bigger picture, and he’s never given up on effective responses to 21st century tyranny. Snyder meets this time of creeping (loping?) fascism with a YouTube series in which he speaks directly to the camera. This kind of political secessionism imposes the permanent will of a minority on a rapidly changing nation, ensuring that history never catches up with the elites, a category that includes leaders on both sides of the euphemistic “aisle.” For increasing numbers of Americans, political divisions are more aptly characterized by barricades, prison walls, or indivisible codes of silence(ing), repression, and complicity. ![]() Trump may be out of power, but the threats to democracy are wired in - in one judicial action after another, and in states like North Carolina, where an illegal, racially-gerrymandered state legislature has held power for years, and now seeks to nullify federal elections at state level, with many other states threatening to follow suit. Published in 2021 and reflecting four years of Trumpism, the illustrated edition continues what we might call Snyder’s Chomskyan commitment to public intellectualism. ![]() ![]() ![]() Two years after her conviction, Assata Shakur escaped from prison. The result is a signal contribution to the literature about growing up Black in America that has already taken its place alongside The Autobiography of Malcolm X and the works of Maya Angelou. ![]() With wit and candor, Assata Shakur recounts the experiences that led her to a life of activism and portrays the strengths, weaknesses, and eventual demise of Black and White revolutionary groups at the hand of government officials. This intensely personal and political autobiography belies the fearsome image of JoAnne Chesimard long projected by the media and the state. Edgar Hoover's campaign to defame, infiltrate, and criminalize Black nationalist organizations and their leaders, Shakur was incarcerated for four years prior to her conviction on flimsy evidence in 1977 as an accomplice to murder. "On May 2, 1973, Black Panther Assata Shakur (aka JoAnne Chesimard) lay in a hospital, close to death, handcuffed to her bed, while local, state, and federal police attempted to question her about the shootout on the New Jersey Turnpike that had claimed the life of a white state trooper. ![]() ![]() Since Zoe had moved into town three months ago the two of them had become good friends. “Speaking of naughty, this cupcake is like sex in my mouth and these cookies are to die for.”ĭespite the smile on Zoe’s face, Kalista knew that the memories of the past weighed heavily on her friend and a wave of sympathy swept through her.
